The LEAP Roslyn Milstein Meyer Community Center offers an opportunity for children of the local community to get involved and learn new skills in LEAP's beautiful community center, which features a kitchen, full-size basketball court, and dance studio. During the 2010/2011 academic year, LEAP will offer classes in cooking and dance, as well as, run a competitive basketball league. Children ages 7-12 (age as of Sept 1, 2010) are eligible to participate. History of the Center The Roslyn Milstein Meyer Community Center is named after one of LEAP's co-founders and great supporters. Dr. Meyer graduated in 1971 from Yale College and received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Yale University in 1977. Dr. Meyer chaired the LEAP Board for many years and co-founded LEAP to enhance the life opportunities of young people and to help them develop and achieve academic and social success. Class Dates and Times All classes meet in the LEAP Roslyn Milstein Meyer Community Center. Classes begin the week of Sept 20 and run until the week of Dec 6 (12 weeks). Space is limited DANCE Hip Hop: Wednesday evenings 7-9 year olds - 5:45-6:45pm 10-12 year olds - 6:50-7:50pm Jazz: Friday evenings 7-9 year olds - 5:45-6:45pm 10-12 year olds - 6:50-7:50pm Dec 10th Dance exposition for friends and family BASKETBALL Basketball league assessment day: 7-9 year olds Mon, Sept 13 10-12 year olds Tues, Sept 14 Practices and games will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings. An exact schedule will be distributed to participants following the assessment day and the formation of teams. Participants will receive a tee-shirt and trophy. Dec 10th End of league celebration for friends and family. COOKING Cooking: Monday evenings 7-12 year olds 6:00-7:30pm Class will include instruction in food preparation, healthy recipes, and kids will contribute to the first annual LEAP Cookbook. Dec 6th Celebration with friends and family.

Antonio Brown will lead the Basketball league. Mr. Brown has 15 years experience coaching organized youth basketball. Nikki Caxton is a Jazz instructor and choreographer at the Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School and has 20 years experience teaching dance. Marvin Browning is a Hip Hop teacher at Dee Dee's Dance School and is a graduate of James Hillhouse High School.
