I love LEAP! LEAP keeps us safe and provides us with counselors that are older so that we could have somone to look up to. "

PeaceJam

9/3/2009

LEAP joins over 600,000 youth from across the globe in an effort to change the world.

PeaceJam is a non-profit organization which empowers young people across the globe to create change through the inspiration of Nobel Peace Prize laureates.  Youth study Nobel Peace Laureates’ own journeys toward world change.  From this understanding of global figures, youth work toward making changes in their own schools and communities.  PeaceJammers range in age from 5-25, and at LEAP, our LITs, ages 13-15, join the movement this fall.  PeaceJam’s program revolves around three pillars:  Education, Inspiration and Action (all familiar to Leapers!).  LITs will study Nobel Peace Laureates such as Desmond Tutu and Adolfo Pérez Esquivel and learn from their powerful examples of leadership skills.   How did Desmond Tutu convert his anger into positive action? How can the teens of New Haven do likewise with local dilemmas?  Every year, PeaceJammers around the world create hundreds of Global Call to Action service projects, one of which will be led by LEAP’s LITs.  Look out for updates on the LITs’ project as the school year progresses.  Visit www.peacejam.org to find your own inspiration for change!
